“I don't want to be anything other than what I've been trying to be lately,” these are the words I sang out at the top of my lungs Friday night.
I arrived at the pool deck just in time to hear the words of “In Love With a Girl” coming from the front of the stage. The sound of one of my favorite songs sung by Gavin DeGraw, and I immediately began singing along and dancing about. At any other pool deck this behavior may appear as an odd, gregarious gesture made by a Vegas tourist, on this pool deck however it fit with the rest of the crowd. June 24, DeGraw gave a great performance to fans at Red Rock Resort in a showcase concert of his soon-to-be-released album.
As the tunes of his music echoed over the pool deck, I sang my way up toward the front of the stage to join the rest of the crowd.
For the next hour DeGraw performed his hit songs and showcased material from his new album; Sweeter, which will be released August 9.
In a laid back and warm summer evening the poolside concert brought in a good sized crowd that covered the floor at the base of the stage and dispersed throughout the rest of the venue’s seating areas.
From one song to the next the crowd was singing along and swaying back and forth to the melodies. For his final encore, the crowd went crazy as DeGraw gave a great performance of “I Don’t Want To Be.” This was also the key moment when my friend and myself erupted into full singing and dancing in the crowd of people.
Summer time in Vegas is a brutal thing, but with the help of these enjoyable poolside concerts they are a bit less stifling and are an event to look forward to, if for no other reason than the excuse to yell out lyrics into a night sky.
